What Really Works on Facebook

There is more to posting on Facebook than a haphazard shotgun approach.  A recent study  offers an in-depth analysis of the top 20,000 Facebook pages and up to a quarter of a million posts in an effort to determine the most useful posting techniques. If you are looking to improve your customer interaction and draw more clients into a positive relationship about your business, you may want to start using these techniques.

1.  Best Time to Post.  Posting on weekends and off-peak hours from 2PM to 5AM received the highest interaction rates. It was noted that Thursdays had the highest level of postings during the week and the lowest interaction rates from users.

2.  Number of Posts per Day.  The study suggests frequent posting increases interaction. As you might suspect, fewer posts reduce the chances users will actually see them. Of course every business is different and you will have to balance the number of posts with the level of interaction without causing people to become annoyed and unsubscribe.

3.  Best Type of Content.  By far, photos generate the highest interaction rates.  Video, music and links all produce lower levels of interaction in that order.  Photos rank at the top because they are visual, easy to digest and bring about emotion.

4.  Ask for a Like or Comment.  The study showed by asking  your fans or clients to "like" or comment on a post increased interaction rates over 200 percent. Make sure you use this call to action on every post.

5.  Length of Messages.  According to the study, size does not matter.
